Anxiety

Stealing.

Cheating.

Drinking alone.

Telling white lies.

No plan for the day.

Being critical of others.

Being critical of myself.

Long periods of time alone.

Drinking too much caffeine.

No priority, only overwhelm.

Going to bed late and waking up late.

Saying “no” to a friends invite to meet up.

Not working out for long periods of time.

Spending too much time on social media.

“If you are depressed you are living in the past.
If you are anxious you are living in the future.
If you are at peace you are living in the present.”― Lao Tzu

We might never rid ourselves of a lingering anxiety until our death.

When anxiety surfaces, we often fight it.

Suppress it.

We do everything but be with it.

A lovely way of reframing it anxiety is “a kind of tax we pay in return for self-awareness.”

A signal in our conscious state, informing us that something is slightly off in at this moment.

What am I not seeing?

What am I missing?

When we reframe it this way, we can stop the resistance.

We can stop the fight with ourselves.

There is now no need to bury this feeling with drink/ food.

We do not need to run away from it.

But instead we can now go inwards and listen to this feeling or emotion closely.

What is it trying to tell you?

What can you learn from leaning into this moment, instead of running away from it?

Anxiety can be our greatest friend and feedback mechanism or worst enemy.

I like the analogy of the snow globe.

When you are fighting with anxiety it is like shaken snow globe.

You can’t see the woods from the trees.

In the midst of movement and chaos, you fight.

You do everything but be still and breath.

Only when you surrender, clarity comes back to you.

In the stillness of your presence, you can transcend the illusions, misconceptions, and narratives that tether you to the external and superficial aspects of reality.

In this quiet state of clarity, a deeper truth about yourself and emerges revealing an enlighten state of awareness about oneself.

When the fight is over, you realise that everything in existence is interconnected.

You find the truth.

You find clarity.

You find that there is only love.

Love for you, love for others, love for this very moment.
